Why Hydro Jetting Could Be the Best Possible Solution for Your Backed Up Drain

hydro jetting for backed up drains.

Dealing with a backed up drain is a common issue for home owners; it can be both inconvenient and expensive if not addressed quickly. In some cases, conventional methods such as snakes and augers are not enough to resolve drainage blockages caused by grease, sludge and other debris. Hydro jetting, a cost-effective, non-invasive process of flushing water through a pipe to clear blockages, is a great option for homeowners dealing with clogged drains. In this article, we’ll take a look at why hydro jetting could be the best solution for your backed up drain.

What is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting is a process that uses a high-pressure, water-propelled jet to dislodge and remove clogs, as well as other debris such as grease and sludge, from a pipe. The jetting device is inserted through an existing clean-out or access point, and the pressure of the water is adjustable depending on the type of obstruction. Hydro jetting is fast and efficient, and can often clear the toughest blockages in residential and commercial sewer line systems.

Advantages of Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting has many advantages for homeowners dealing with clogged drains, such as:

  • Cost-Effective: Hydro jetting is a relatively affordable way to resolve drainage blockages, compared to other methods.
  • Fast and Effective: Hydro jetting is quick, efficient and can be completed in a relatively short amount of time.
  • Long-Lasting: Hydro jetting can also remove build-up and sediment, ensuring that the drain lines remain clean and clear.

Disadvantages of Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting also has some disadvantages that must be taken into consideration. For example, hydro jetting can be more expensive than traditional methods such as a sewer rodding service. Additionally, hydro jetting requires access to an existing clean-out or access point. Lastly, it should be noted that hydro jetting is not suitable for older pipes which may be in disrepair, as the pressurized water can cause further damage to the pipes.

Final Considerations

When it comes to dealing with a backed up drain, homeowners must be aware of all the available methods for resolving the issue. Hydro jetting can be a great solution for certain blockages, as it is cost-effective, non-invasive, fast and effective. However, it’s important to consider the disadvantages as well and be mindful of what your particular situation calls for. If you have a backed up drain, it’s best to contact a professional plumber who can assess the situation and provide the best possible solution. Hydro jetting, when done correctly, can be a great way to restore your drain and keep everything flowing smoothly.

Common Questions About Hydro Jetting in Chicago

Common Questions About Hydro Jetting in Chicago

In recent years, hydro jetting has become an increasingly popular method for clearing clogs and blockages in plumbing systems. This powerful technique uses high-pressure water to remove debris, scale, and roots from pipes, ensuring optimal flow and preventing future plumbing issues. If you live in Chicago and are considering hydro jetting for your plumbing needs, you may have some questions. Below we address common questions about hydro jetting in Chicago and provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision.

What is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting, also known as water jetting or sewer jetting, is a plumbing technique that utilizes high-pressure water to clean and clear obstructed pipes. A specialized nozzle is inserted into the plumbing system, and pressurized water is forcefully sprayed to remove scale, sludge, tree roots, and other debris that can cause clogs and backups.

How Does Hydro Jetting Work in Chicago?

In Chicago, hydro jetting works by leveraging the power of high-pressure water to thoroughly clean and clear plumbing pipes. Here’s how the process typically unfolds:

  1. Inspection: A professional Chicago plumber will first inspect your plumbing system using advanced camera technology to identify the location and extent of the blockage.
  2. Preparation: Once the blockage is identified, the plumber will prepare the equipment by attaching a specialized nozzle to a high-pressure water hose.
  3. Jetting: The plumber will insert the hydro jetting nozzle into the affected pipe and release a powerful stream of water. The high-pressure water will blast away any debris, scale, or roots, clearing the blockage and restoring optimal flow.
  4. Inspection and Cleanup: After the hydro jetting process is complete, the plumber will conduct a final inspection to ensure the blockage has been completely cleared. Any remaining debris will be flushed out of the system, leaving your pipes clean and free-flowing.

Is Hydro Jetting Suitable for All Plumbing Systems?

Hydro jetting is a versatile technique that can be used on a wide range of plumbing systems, including residential, commercial, and industrial. However, it is not suitable for all situations. Here are a few factors to consider:

  • Age and Condition of Pipes: Hydro jetting is typically safe for newer pipes made of durable materials such as PVC or copper. However, older pipes, especially those made of clay or fragile materials, may not withstand the high-pressure water and could be damaged. A professional plumber can assess the condition of your pipes and determine if hydro jetting is appropriate.
  • Severity of the Blockage: Hydro jetting is most effective for moderate to severe blockages caused by debris, scale, or tree roots. If the blockage is minor or caused by a foreign object, alternative methods may be more suitable.
  • Accessibility: In some cases, accessing the plumbing system may be challenging or impossible, making hydro jetting impractical. A plumber will need to assess the accessibility of your pipes before recommending hydro jetting as a solution.

Hydro jetting relies on the power of water, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals that can be harmful to the environment.

What are the Benefits of Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting offers several advantages over traditional methods of clearing clogs and blockages. Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Thorough Cleaning: Hydro jetting completely clears obstructions and removes accumulated debris, ensuring optimal flow and preventing future issues.
  • Non-Invasive: Unlike mechanical methods such as a sewer rodding service that may require digging or dismantling pipes, hydro jetting is a non-invasive technique that can be performed without damaging your plumbing system.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Hydro jetting relies on the power of water, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals that can be harmful to the environment.
  • Long-Lasting Results: With its powerful cleaning action, hydro jetting provides long-lasting results, minimizing the need for frequent plumbing maintenance.

Is Hydro Jetting Safe for Plumbing Pipes in Chicago?

Hydro jetting is generally safe for plumbing pipes, especially when performed by a professional plumber. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:

  • Professional Expertise: It is crucial to hire a licensed and experienced plumber who is knowledgeable in hydro jetting techniques. They will understand the appropriate pressure levels and ensure the procedure is safe for your specific plumbing system.
  • Pipe Material: As mentioned earlier, the material of your pipes can impact the suitability of hydro jetting. Discuss the composition of your plumbing system with the plumber to ensure compatibility.
  • Preventive Measures: To minimize the risk of damage, a professional plumber will take precautionary measures such as camera inspecting the sewer lines and adjusting the water pressure accordingly.

How Often Should Hydro Jetting be Done?

The frequency of hydro jetting depends on various factors, including the age of your plumbing system, the presence of trees or vegetation near your property, and your water usage habits. As a general guideline, it is recommended to schedule hydro jetting every 1-2 years to prevent major blockages and maintain the efficiency of your plumbing system.

Can Hydro Jetting Solve Persistent Plumbing Issues?

While hydro jetting is highly effective in clearing clogs and blockages, it may not solve all plumbing issues. Persistent problems such as collapsed pipes, extensive tree root intrusions, or corroded pipelines may require further inspection and potential repairs or replacements. A professional plumber can assess the underlying cause of the issue and recommend the most appropriate solution.

Hydro jetting is a powerful and effective method for clearing clogs and obstructions in plumbing systems. If you live in Chicago and are experiencing plumbing issues or want to maintain the efficiency of your pipes, hydro jetting may be the ideal solution. By understanding the process, benefits, and considerations associated with hydro jetting, you can make an informed decision and ensure the long-term health of your plumbing system. Hydro Jetting: The Best Modern Day Drain Cleaning Solution

Hydro Jetting: The Best Modern Day Drain Cleaning Solution

No, hydro jetting isn’t something new in the world of extreme sports. However, it’s not like we’re saying it isn’t exciting. It’s just that today we’ll be talking about how to deal with plumbing issues. More precisely, we’ll consider probably the best modern-day drain cleaning service out there called, well, hydro jetting. We will show you all the pros of hiring this kind of service to effectively clean your drain. Stick around for some useful information, plus tips!

What is hydro jetting?

Before we talk about the benefits of hydro jetting (or hydro jet drain cleaning), let’s define it first. Hydro jetting is a very effective plumbing technique that utilizes highly pressurized water to amplify clog removal. It will make your sewer line as clean as possible. You might assume that only commercial buildings enjoy this type of service. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Many residential homeowners opt for hydro jetting, too.

Experts note that high-pressure drain cleaners are, in most cases, less costly in the long run than their short-term, cheaper counterparts. The latter won’t help you eliminate the problem efficiently, and you will soon have to call your local plumbers again. That being said, it’s best you play it smart. But let’s try not to get ahead of ourselves here. We will let you reach your own conclusion once you’re done reading the article.

Deal with your sewer system issues by hiring hydro jetting services.

How does hydro jetting work?

Here we will try to explain how the whole method works. The system is made out of a house, a nozzle, and a machine that generates the water pressure. You will be happy to know that hydro jetting, as the name suggests, is a method that only utilizes water. There are no chemicals involved in the process.

Preparations

Before the whole ordeal begins, your plumbing and sewer repair professional will have to conduct a CCTV video inspection. It is a safety measure that will guarantee your pipe is in good condition—tell us the folks over at Zippy Shell of Greater Philadelphia. Why is this necessary? In case your pipes are old and frail, they might break or damage under high pressure. Also, the plumbers you’ll hire will need to figure out if your drainage pipe has collapsed (instead of simply being clogged). If it collapses, hydro jetting won’t handle the issue – you will need to replace it with a new one.

The work

Here is the main part: the plumbing professionals you have hired will have to access the pipe using something called “a cleanout.” It’s the part of your pipe that has a cap on it. It’s there to provide easy access to the pipe. Therefore, your contractors will insert the nozzle and hose into the pipe via the so-called cleanout. Whenever they stumble upon something that prevents them from going further, they’ll simply use the jetting system to spray pressurized water into the obstruction, washing it away. A professional hydro jetting plumber will know the right amount of pressure that is needed to dissolve obstructions. Without doing any harm to the pipe, that is. That is, among other things, why hydro jetting is not something you want to try in a DIY manner.

A plumbing professional inspects the sewer system.

Most plumbing issues shouldn’t be handled in a DIY manner.

Hydro jetting vs. Rodding (or other more traditional methods)

There’s another popular way of breaking up clogs. It’s called rodding and represents a method where pros use a so-called plumber’s snake (sometimes called a drain snake) to deal with clogs. Here we’ll try to explain why we think (and it’s not just us) hydro jetting’s better!

It’s cheaper (in the long run)

Of course, snaking might be cheaper “in the short run.” However, once you hydro-jet your pipes, you probably will not need plumbing services for a good period of time. Needless to say, the same can’t be said after snaking.

It is also non-invasive

That’s right! Once the clog appears inside your sewer system, pros who use more traditional drain cleaning solutions often have to dig in order to access the piping. Not only can that be a bit messy, but it also takes too much time to happen.

Hydro jetting is more hygienic

By using the aforementioned traditional methods (such as a sewer rodding service), you are risking your sewage system coming in contact with the inside of your home. On the other side, hydro jetting is a quicker, mess-free process. It will completely eliminate the risk of your home coming into contact with contaminants.

And did we mention that it is totally safe?

There are absolutely no chemicals used during the hydro jetting process that can harm your health. The whole thing revolves around pressurized water and nothing more (or less).

Letters merged to form SAFE

Hydro jetting is the safest drain cleaning method as it only utilizes water.

Lastly, it is eco-friendly

As we have mentioned, since no chemicals are used during the hydro jetting process (when you compare it to other, more traditional methods), it will not harm the environment in this way or another. Even folks that have homes near rivers and lakes can utilize this solution without thinking they’re doing some damage to the local ecosystem.

How to know when to hire hydro jetting services?

Here we will show you the so-called telltale signs that your sewer line requires the method known as hydro jetting:

  • The system backs up on a regular basis
  • There’s a smell coming from your bathroom or kitchen sink drain
  • You’re hearing noises or gurgling in the pipes
  • You always end up with clogs, no matter how careful you are with the stuff you push down your drains
  • Your drains run slowly

If you’re having any doubts about whether you require hydro jetting services, simply reach out to professionals and ask for a sewer camera inspection. Even though you will have to pay for the service, the price is still nothing compared to the cost of replacing your sewer line.

Closing thoughts on the subject

Okay, folks, that is about all that we’ve prepared for today on the subject of hydro jetting, regarded by many as the best modern-day drain-cleaning solution. Hopefully, we’ve been convincing enough to show you the way things really stand!

5 Main Benefits of a Hydro Jet Drain Cleaning Service

Benefits of a Hydro Jet Drain Cleaning Service

Out of every prospective housekeeping task, there is nothing quite as frustrating as cleaning your plumbing system. Consider this: you are perfectly capable of vacuuming, scrubbing, and tidying up rooms inside your home. But there’s not much a person without specific training and equipment can do to clean out pipes. Running water or pulling out your plunger is about the extent of reasonable attempts, which means that you need to decide on what kind of drain cleaning service you want to rely on. And that’s a sort of torment all its own! After all, reading up on all the different cleaning methods will likely stress you out immensely. Thankfully, there is, actually, an ideal solution. To prove our claim, check out this video on YouTube at benefits of a hydro jet drain cleaning service.

Very quick and easy

The first of the benefits of a hydro jet drain cleaning service is how convenient and fast it is. Consider all the usual trouble a plumber must go through to clean your plumbing system. Even the best option involves complex, long tools you need to insert into pipes. And that’s only good for a single section of pipe! Much more commonly, digging up your yard or opening up your walls and floor is necessary to get at the insides of a pipe. The time needed just to do that should be readily apparent. And that’s without considering the actual process of cleaning out the pipes once you have access to them. All the while, you would not be able to use your home’s plumbing normally, which makes for a lot more disruption to your daily life than you might think!

A complete cleanout of your pipes

If you hire professional plumbers, they can use hydro jet drain cleaning to thoroughly cleanse your plumbing system. The sheer power of this cleaning means that everything will be scrubbed away by the jet of water. Do you have a problem with grease buildup? It will swiftly be a thing of the past. Issues with constantly developing clogs? You will not need to worry about it for a while. You see, these things happen mainly because of the layers of obstructions made out of various nasty stuff that goes through your plumbing. They are practically impossible to remove through any other type of cleaning. After all, even if you detach a pipe, scrubbing it perfectly clean would take far too much to get through the entire system. Meaning your only real option for a holistic solution is jet drain cleaning!

No use of chemicals or chance of damage

We already mentioned that nothing would clean your pipes entirely like a hydro jet drain cleaning. It would, however, be untrue to say that some services can’t get quite close. They can. The only problem is that they rely on powerful chemicals or toxic substances to get all the grime and other nasty stuff out of your pipes. And that is not exactly the most environmentally friendly or safest option! Even the most resilient pipes can eventually get damaged, and the chances of this happening increase considerably when using the abovementioned chemicals. So, another of the essential benefits of a hydro jet drain cleaning service is that it can do so without using chemicals! You will spare your pipes the potential damage and avoid polluting the environment further by relying on the pure power of water to clean your plumbing system.

The cheapest option

Yet another thing that we need to consider when discussing the benefits of a hydro jet drain cleaning service is cost. After all, as the experts from 24/7 Logistics Services like to point out, being affordable is as important as providing a good service. And hydro jet drain cleaning has affordability going for it! First, there’s the fact that it only uses water. You don’t have to pay for the expensive and highly damaging chemicals we’ve already discussed. Then, there’s the cost of the more ‘traditional’ methods such as a sewer rodding service. In the end, you would get charged for having your walls, floor and yard dug up, and you’d also need to pay someone to fix all the damage. Also, consider the cost of replacing tiles in your bathroom or kitchen. Charges quickly pile up until it seems better to just endure clogged pipes.

A solution for most of your drainage problems

The final one of the benefits of a hydro jet drain cleaning service is just how many problems it effectively puts a stop to. It is undeniable that almost every possible situation you can encounter with your plumbing stems from lousy cleaning. The horrible smells stem from small bits of debris and gunk, which most cleaning methods can’t remove. Clogs appear because the buildup can’t be stopped quickly enough or because prior cleaning didn’t do a good job of breaking apart ‘dams’ of debris. Even hearing gurgling under your sink could signify that your plumbing could benefit from a cleaning. The affordability, ease of getting it done, and sheer power of hydro jet drain cleaning make it much simpler to call in a plumber rather than wonder what’s wrong and try to deal with the problem yourself.

Final comment

Being familiar with the 5 main benefits of a hydro jet drain cleaning service, you should be able to see why this cleaning method is so superior to alternatives. You will spare your home pointless destruction. You would be able to save a ton of money, and it’s environmentally healthy, and it doesn’t damage your pipes. And it’s even fast and easy to do! All the benefits make it challenging to opt for anything else since it’d be a waste of resources.

Why Hydro Jetting is Important Before a Sewer Line Repair

The sewer lines in your home are designed to last a long time. It is not uncommon to find fully functional sewer lines that are twenty years old and over. This is because sewer systems, due to the type of content that passes through them, are designed to be sturdy.

Why Hydro-Jetting is Important Before a Sewer Line Repair

However, even the most well built sewer line will eventually have problems. These issues can come from several sources. The sewer line in your home can get damaged because of misuse, warns Jilsa Management. Or it can lose some of its function through wear and tear or a natural accident.

Regardless of the origin of the issues in your sewer lines, you want to solve the problem and make sure it does not return. To get this result, you should know the best practice for fixing a damaged sewer line; the sewer line repair should be preceded by hydro-jetting.

What is hydro-jetting? What does it do? And why is hydro-jetting important during sewer line repair?

What Is hydro-jetting?

Hydro-jetting is a drain cleaning method that uses high-pressure water to blast away clogs and blockages inside the sewer lines. Water is delivered at a pressure of up to 6000 PSI, which is enough force to remove tree roots, sludge, and other materials lodged inside the pipes.

The process of hydro-jetting is as follows:

  1. As a first step, the plumber conducts a sewer camera inspection by installing a small camera on one end of a cable and inserting it into the sewer line.
  2. The camera travels through the sewer line and sends back images of the interior of the pipes to a computer screen monitored by the plumber.
  3. This initial process helps the plumber pinpoint the location of the problem and determine its severity. The inspection also tells the plumber if it is safe to go on with the next step.
  4. If it is safe to proceed – that is, there is no possibility of the sewer line collapsing – the actual hydro-jetting process can now begin.
  5. Hydro-jetting equipment consists of a large tank filled with water, a specialized high-pressure water hose, a super-strong nozzle, and equipment for pushing the water through the nozzle at high pressure.
  6. The high-pressure water hose, with the nozzle at its head, is inserted into the sewer line until it reaches the point of the blockage.
  7. The clog is blasted with just enough water pressure to break up the obstruction inside the pipe. Hydro-jetting can deliver enough water pressure to shear away plant roots.
  8. The dislodged material is washed down the pipe and into the city’s main sewer lines.
  9. Finally, another sewer camera inspection is done to view the results of the process and determine the condition of the pipes.

Hydro-jetting lets your plumber clear blockages inside the pipes without digging up the yard or exposing your pipes to the risk of damage. Hydro-jetting can be used to effectively remove the following kinds of blockage from a sewer line.

  • Sludge or grease, fat, and oil build: When you flush grease, fats, and oil into the drain, these materials cling to the sides of the pipes and trap dirt. A hydro jet will remove buildup.
  • Intruding tree roots:  In a bid to find water and nutrients, the roots of nearby shrubs or trees can find their way into the sewer line. Hydro-jetting will solve this problem.
  • Pipe scale: Dissolved minerals in hard water are deposited on the interior surface of pipes, where they reduce the diameter of the pipe. Hydro-jetting will remove pipe scale.
  • Non-flushable objects: A range of items we use in the home find their way into the sewer line. Hydro-jetting can blast away these troublesome items.

Hydro-jetting is a powerful yet gentle method for cleaning drains. But why is it necessary to carry out this procedure before a sewer line repair service?

hydro jetting a sewer line

Why hydro-jetting is done before sewer line repair

  • To detect problems: Hydro-jetting the sewer line washes away the layers of filth inside the sewer line and exposes the actual surface of the pipes. This allows the plumber to see the true extent of the damage to the sewer line.
  • Improves the accuracy of repairs: By combining sewer camera inspection with hydro-jetting, the plumber can pinpoint the location of a problem. Hydro-jetting injects a high level of accuracy into sewer repair. It ensures the finished job is well done and long- lasting.
  • Reduce costs: There are other ways to clean a sewer line before it is repaired, but hydro-jetting is the quickest and most-effective method. Other methods will cost more in labor and time.

Improves sanitation and indoor air quality: Hydro-jetting the sewer before repairing helps the plumber do a more complete job. Hydro-jetting gets rid of the bacteria inside the drain that cause bad odors. Unless the sewer line is cleaned with a hydro-jet, the bacteria inside them are not easily removed.

Is Hydro Jetting the Drain Cleaning Solution You Need?

Unfortunately, blocked drains in the home are a common problem. A blocked drain is a huge pain as it will reduce water flow, slow down or prevent drainage, and damage the plumbing. But as Blue Door Realty says, the worst is the possibility of disgusting wastewater backing up into your home.

hydro-jetting-chicago

Thankfully, there are many ways to deal with a blocked drain. Anyone can unclog a blocked drain if they know how to use a rodding machine or snake. But plungers and drain snakes are only good if the cause of the blockage is close to the drain opening.

For blockages deep inside the drain system plungers and drain snakes won’t work. Finding the right solution for removing a drain clog is vital and this depends on the cause of the blockage, its position inside the drain, and how long the problem has been there.

The most common causes of drain blockages are hair, pieces of food, grease, soap, oil, mineral buildup, and items that accidentally fall into the drain. If any of these items manage to find their way deep into the drain system, they can’t be removed with a plunger.

For complex blockages like that, an advanced solution like hydro jetting is what you need. Hydro jetting will dislodge clogs no matter how deep they are inside the drain system. What is hydro jetting drain cleaning, what are its pros and when should you use this method in your home?

Hydro jetting drain cleaning: how it works and its benefits

Hydro jetting removes drain clogs by blasting them with high-pressure water via a special hose threaded into the plumbing system. This has an attached nozzle, which is able to create a stream of high-pressured water with a force of up to 4,000 psi (pound-force per square inch).

This is enough pressure to break down obstructions, shear away tree roots, and remove buildup. Hydro jetting can be used for pipes of various sizes and to resolve the most severe drain clogs. The size and design of the nozzle can be altered to suit the pipe and type of blockage.

What are the advantages of hydro jetting over other methods of drain cleaning?

It is quick

When you have a blocked drain, speed is of the essence. With hydro jetting, you don’t have to wait long before you can start to use your drains again. The process can be completed in a few hours.

It is not messy

Plumbing jobs almost always create a mess. You will not have this problem when you use hydro jetting. Since hydro jetting flushes away the obstructions inside the drain, you will not have to deal with any smelly unsanitary mess.

It is safe

Because you will not come into contact with wastewater from the drain or any stuff inside the pipes, hydro jetting does not expose you or your family to the risk of disease or illness.

Doesn’t use dangerous chemicals

Hydro jetting uses only water. No strong chemicals will be forced into your drain system. So you can be sure of the safety of your pipes and drain.

It is versatile

Hydro jetting can be used for pipes of all sizes and any type of blockage. All that’s needed is a nozzle that matches the size of the pipe and the nature of the problem.

It removes sludge

One of the hardest types of drain clogs to remove is sludge. Whether it is sludge caused by soap scum, oil and grease, or coffee grinds, hydro jetting will remove it completely.

Useful for preventing clogs

You can use hydro jetting to protect your drain pipes and maintain the function of the drain system by having the system flushed occasionally.

Does your drain need hydro jetting?

hydro-jetting-services-chicago

You will need hydro jetting if any of these drain problems apply to you:

Other solutions have failed

Sewer rodding and drain snakes are no good when removing clogs that lie beyond the opening of your drain. For instance, if you are dealing with sludge buildup, a sewer rodding will only poke holes in the sediment, instead of fully removing it. The problem will return eventually. The best way to deal with blockages that are not easily resolved is to use hydro-jetting.

Major blockages

If you have substantial scale accumulation in your drain pipes, or you are dealing with tree root intrusion, silt, or heavy sludge buildup, the most effective way to solve the problem is with hydro jetting. Mineral/sludge buildup, if not dealt with effectively can damage your drain pipes. Hydro jetting is a more affordable option than replacing sewer pipes.

Your drain needs maintenance

If you want a way to maintain drain pipes that is effective but does not take a lot of time, hydro jetting is the recommended solution. It will clear away the debris inside sewer lines and return them to how they were at installation.
